Convergence- meaning the merging of different media platforms, impacts Journalism and Journalists on different levels. The introduction of different media platforms in the digital era i.e.- online news has created a very competitive market for journalism because a multitude of news data is readily available and instantly accessible online. This means that journalists need to adapt new strategies e.g. Mojo journalism, and creating UGS to keep up with the demand for instant online news availability- that can be accessed at any time of the day.
Convergence may create redundancies and operational shifts, due to Journalists adapting to more than only the role of reporting, and the need for print media is becoming less.
Once a news story is published online, journalists have no control of its further distribution- essentially it is owned by public. Thus, convergence is having a major impact on copyright and ownership.
News is being condensed for mobile usage and tweeting, which may affect the quality of journalism and the quality of writing.
A single media platform i.e. broadcast or print alone will not survive in the competitive digital era, as the majority of people consume news online or via mobile phones, thus convergence must take place in order for publications to maintain operation.
